MEXICO

Guillermo Monroy

Sculptor, Painter – MEXICO

Guillermo Monroy

As a Mexican living in Britain for the past twenty years, He is able to draw on his cultural roots and new cultural stimuli to invigorate his working processes.

He has continually exhibited throughout this time and his work has developed from a painter who sculpts to now predominantly a sculptor who also paints. He found both practices inform the other, symbiotically creating the working rhythm that ignites the work.

Musical instruments, wood and metal are the main materials used, having an intrinsic natural beauty and strong connections to the earth. In common with painting, these materials can be manipulated through colour, thickness, texture and warmth, and additionally the surfaces can be caressed or violated through polishing or chiseling. he likes to contrast the qualities of wood by combining it with other elements. The process of construction is
vital to how the final form is perceived.

Aerial Sparks

Painter, Sculptor, Installation – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Aerial Sparks2

Aerial Sparks dropped out of art school (studying photography) at the age of 19 and subsequently taught himself to paint, unsure how to access the art world he started a career as a means to an end. In 2005 he re-evaluated his life and made a commitment to his vocation, irrespective of the consequences he gave up his job and travelled to Bali which he had been visiting regularly for 10 years and befriended and commissioned art works by local artisans. Aerial has had a studio in East London from 2006 where he has collaborated with craftsmen and engineers. Aerial supplements his practice by working with socially excluded individuals.

I am interested in psychology and also delve into existentialism, it has been suggested that my paintings have parallels with symbolism. My paintings are figurative, often juxtaposing disturbing and “sweet” elements, designed to induce a feeling or havea double take in the viewer.

Andy Stewart

Painter, Installation – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Andy Stewart

Andy Stewart confronts the viewer with a spectacle of visual theatre. The artist’s fascinating and experimental approach to the formal process of painting enlivens the work as he uses a diverse layering of poured and thrown acrylic and gloss paint, enriched by tangible peppering of glitter and diamond dust.A canvas is like a glorious petri dish. The final image is relevant but utterly irrelevant at the same time. It may have elements of mystery and may suggest location but these exists only in the intelligence and desire of the viewer -the paintings should be experienced rather than read.

Painter – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Daniel Preece2

1988-89, the Slade School of Fine Art 1989-93 and the Royal Drawing School 2006-07. His work has mainly been about the urban landscape using the city as a starting point to explore formal issues of geometry and colour that hover between abstraction and figuration. The paintings have evolved from a pictorial landscape tradition, working directly from observation to create a sense of place and space using a strong personal colour palette.

Gail Deayton

Sculptor, Printmaker – UK / HONG KONG

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Gail Deayton

As an artist, sculpture has always been Gail Deayton’s primary focus. Despite drawing being an integral part of Gail Deayton’s creative process and thinking, sculpture has continually (consciously and subconsciously) pulled her back and demanded them to make sense of her ideas by working three-dimensionally.
Having lived in Hong Kong and Asia for over twenty years, the interplay between line, form and the structures of Hong Kong are visual elements that continually stimulates her creativity and work.

Sculpture gives her the ability to create a certain order to things and deal with the many contradictions that are juxtaposed – in our cities, traditions, cultures, and lives – which oppose, but also, interact, weave and collaborate with each other fluently and consistently. The range of materials she used (stainless-steel, bronze, glass and concrete), reflect, marry and challenge these differences
Born in the UK in 1973, Gail studied Fine Art Sculpture at Manchester, graduation in 1994. In 1997 she moved to Hong Kong, having also lived in Dubai and Indonesia. As well as creating her sculpture in her studio in North Point, Deayton runs Design Thinking workshops for corporations.

Gordon Mackenzie

Mixed media – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Gordon Mackenzie_auto_x2 (1)_auto_x2

My work is a playground – where instinct and accident hold hands and skip; found images and handmade marks scream “fight!”; colours and sounds spin around and around; meaning hides behind the bike sheds for a sneaky ciggy in the hope it won’t be spotted – and the break time bell never rings an end. Every work is an act of love.

Gordon Mackenzie is a collage artist, printmaker and illustrator. Studied at Byam Shaw, London, UK.

Issi lammas

Painter – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Issi Lammas

Issi Lammas (b. 1963) studied art and design at Harrogate, before completing a Fine Art (Painting) Degree at Gloucestershire College of Art, were she experimented with a range of painting and printmaking techniques to create atmospheric landscape images. Fed up with being poor Issi embarked on a career in countryside conservation – a different scale of landscape. Returning to printmaking in 2007, Issi began experimenting with collagraph printmaking. This technique of plate making, which combines intaglio and relief, suits Issi’s painterly way of working and its use of non-toxic chemicals chimes well with her environmental interests. The shape of hills, the weave of willows, dramatic light and skies, disappearing orchards, flooded landscapes and birds all inspire her. She exhibits regularly in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Gallery Jon Baker

Jon Baker founder of Siger Gallery, established in 2012 to promote and sell a broad range of emerging UK and international artists. The gallery is a dynamic platform for a range of art practices including: painting, performance, sculpture, photography, printmaking and animation.

Where does one begin? In the middle of course
At the centre: at the centre of nothing important, helpless and
selfish
Where are you? hiding, fighting or lost.
Are you crowded in or crowded out?
Are you claustrophobic or am I a claustrophile?
One night I dreamt of a crowd
Each one had my face
I was of course ignored
I ignored me
I was alone many times,
I didn’t recognise me
My face was my crowd
No one “I” said a word.

Linda Lieberman

Sculptor, Photographer – SCOTLAND, UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Linda Lieberman

Ecologically, a man cannot ignore what feeds him socially, politically, economically and spiritually. I was born in Scotland where I spent most of my childhood by the sea, and this environment formed and shaped my ongoing concerns with the balance of nature. I am a sculptor and photographer.

I use both these media in a mixed media, as when fused together, an artistic alchemy happens, and this allows my work to become a true expression of the passion I feel for my subject matter. The main core of my photographic work, and a large part of my sculptural work endeavours to create a poetic visual conversation about the sea, where life began, and its constant ever evolving relationship with mankind; developing a “Sea of Awareness”. I use an extensive palette of colours, materials, and textures to bring life to the imagery, as I want my work to have a tangible quality, which creates a thought provoking response.

Nicholas Jolly

Painter, Illustrator – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Nicholas Jolly

A graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, Jolly gained an early
reputation in the 1980s and 90s with dark, brooding paintings
that might be stylistically associated with the robust figuration
that was merging from Germany and Scotland at the time. Since
then his fierce imagination and mastery of colour and form has
led to his work being acquired by public institutions such as the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and Osaka Contemporary
Art and Culture Centre, not to mention a plethora of private
collectors. He has also won numerous awards including two
Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants (1995 and 2009) and a Susan
Kasen Summer Scholarship (1994).

RUSSELL HERRON

Multimedia – UK

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Russell Herron2

Russell Herron (b.1967, London, UK), works primarily with pencil
on paper.
My work uses history, place and identity as touchstones to
navigate work in various forms and to produce bodies of work
that reference these concerns. In the last few years I have
been exploring portraiture through drawings of faces made in
cardboard, using pencil on paper as medium. The pencil drawn
cardboard portraits are a way to think about portraiture without identity, reducing the ‘face’ down to its most basic features
– eyes, nose, mouth – sometimes even less than this. Some of
the faces suggest certain emotions, some are more discreet,
less obvious. Each has a resonance for me from a vast mental
catalogue of faces, people and characters from history; an
expansive register of eclectic images stretching across early
humans and Neanderthals, Egyptian burial masks, Mummers
plays, surgical reconstruction, movie stars, superheroes, ventriloquist dummies, gas masks, photo booth snaps, mugshots,
family photos, cartoons, historical portraiture, mutants,
aliens, cuddly toys, comics. These influences are alluded to
rather than implied and the resulting works rest in a location
of their own construction.

Affordable Art Fair Singapore Siger Victoria Kennedy

Painterly drawings of exotic flowers, wild plants and seed
heads using rich watercolour, ink and charcoal.
The ephemeral nature of the dark reeds and bulrushes,
rhododendron bushes and delicate waterlilies around the lake
where I live, interwoven with observational drawings from my
tangled collection of dramatic and fragile hydrangeas, sunflowers and artichokes are a constant source of fascination and inspiration to my paintings.
