This year marks the 13th Archifest (Singapore Architectural Festival) which began in 2007 as an annual festival for the city to celebrate architecture and the built environment. Organized by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), it is a platform for people from all walks of life to discuss, debate, and dream about possibilities surrounding architecture, our city, and the built environment at large. Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “Fifth of May”) is an annual celebration held on May 5.
The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over the french empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.

Marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is the festival of Eid, known in Singapore as Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Puasa. Ramadan is a period of sober repentance for Muslims, with approximately 30 days of dawn-to-dusk fasting. Adherents of the faith also devote much of the month to worship, charitable deeds, and acts of compassion.

Muslims in Singapore remember their faith with prayer and reflection during Hari Raya Haji, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. Lasting four days, Hari Raya Haji commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) complete faith and trust in God.

National Day Parade (NDP)
Singapore’s National Day falls on August 9th and the National Day Parade (NDP) is a commemoration of Singapore’s Independence. One of Singapore’s much anticipated annual events, the NDP witnesses close to 25,000 spectators every year. Held at the Marina Bay, the celebrations include pre-parade light-hearted filler events, followed by the actual parade and ceremonies including the popular Presidential Gun Salute and culminate into a Grand Finale which is a 45-minute show segment, followed by an impressive fireworks display. The atmosphere is charged and most spectators sport the National Flag’s colors of red and white. You will also find the National Flag displayed on the facade of most housing estates across the island.
Navaratri is celebrated for nine days around September or October every year. It commences on the day of the new moon (Mahalaya Amavasya) of the Tamil month of Purattasi and continues for nine days. The 10th day is called Vijayadasami.

NEW YEAR’S DAY
The year begins with festivities and every New Year heralds celebrations in Singapore. There are several venues that hold New Year’s Eve Countdown Parties for the public. The most popular waterfront events are “The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown” and “Siloso Beach Party” at Sentosa. Most Singaporeans frequent either of these locations to enjoy the public performances and witness the impressive fireworks display. Other popular party spots can be found along Orchard Road, Boat Quay, and Clarke Quay.
NINE EMPEROR GODS FESTIVAL
The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a nine-day festival, held annually from the last week of the eighth lunar month to the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. This festival is one of the most important religious events for the Taoist community in Southeast Asia and is widely celebrated in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

QING MING FESTIVAL
Qing Ming Jie, which can be translated to mean “Clear and Bright Festival” or “Pure and Bright Festival”, is similar to All Souls’ Day observed in the Western world. It is a festival that falls in early April, 106 days after the December winter solstice. Filial piety and ancestral worship are emphasized during Qing Ming. Visiting cemeteries and columbaria with food and other offerings for deceased relatives marks this important period of remembrance.

Holi as per Hindu Tradition a spring festival celebrated predominantly in India, also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, the end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.
The River Hongbao has been on Singapore’s festive calendar every year since 1987. Held at NS Square (the Marina Bay floating platform) this iconic event has become an integral tradition of Singapore’s Lunar New Year celebrations for locals and tourists alike.
